Design Engineer
Join Our Team of Creative Problem Solvers!
Are you looking for engineering work unlike anything you’ve done before? Holmes Solutions is where ingenuity meets reality. Our global projects push the boundaries of what's possible, driven by a team dedicated to making a difference in our world.
We are seeking Intermediate or Senior Design Engineers to join our growing, dynamic team, on a fixed-term or permanent basis. You will collaborate closely with other specialised engineers to develop concepts, design prototypes and test articles, and refine these into production ready systems.
We value a range of experiences and recognise that your unique background could be a great fit for this role. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and seeing them through to a finished, functional solution.
About the Role
As a Design Engineer, you will play a crucial part and your responsibilities will span across a broad spectrum of mechanical engineering challenges, where you will have the opportunity to apply and grow your expertise.
A glimpse of what your work could involve:
- Developing and executing the engineering design of machine structures to handle diverse operational loading conditions.
- Engaging in the detailed engineering of rotating machinery, which could include bearing selection, housing design, shaft and power transmission systems.
- Creating engineering designs for structural components using a variety of manufacturing methods such as machining, casting, and forging.
- Applying your knowledge to design components and assemblies based on yield, ultimate strength, and fatigue life criteria.
- Integrating electrical components like sensors, actuators, and motors into mechanical designs.
- Producing comprehensive engineering design documentation, specifications for fabrication, and manufacturing drawings.
- Designing and analysing structural connections, including threaded, bolted, and riveted joints.
- Analysing the dynamics of kinematic mechanisms, such as impacting elements and high-speed systems.
We are interested in the diverse skills and knowledge you bring. Your background may include a combination of the following:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, or similar
- Ideally 4 years relevant experience in a design engineering role.
- A strong foundation in structural mechanics and various analysis methods
- Proficiency in CAD & FEA tools (SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys).
- Experience in the appropriate selection of materials, defining geometry, and applying dimensional tolerances (GD&T).
- Knowledge of fatigue analysis using established industry methods (such as FKM).
- Familiarity with documenting engineering designs and managing data in systems like SolidWorks PDM.
- A practical understanding of designing for manufacture and providing support throughout the production process.
- Experience in translating customer requirements into verified engineering designs.
- A history of participating in and contributing to engineering design reviews.
Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from diverse ethnic backgrounds are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Solutions we are dedicated to building an inclusive and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
